“We build the house, the house builds memories.”
Conceived as a quiet sanctuary for gathering and retreat, this unbuilt residence explores the idea of sheltered outdoor living as the emotional heart of the home. At its core, the house is envisioned not simply as a structure, but as a setting for life’s evolving narratives — where everyday rituals and milestone celebrations unfold naturally within a carefully composed spatial sequence.
The architecture is organised as a series of considered volumes that mediate between public and private realms. Social spaces extend outward into generous, sheltered terraces; private quarters withdraw gently yet remain visually connected to the landscape. This deliberate layering allows the home to accommodate both intimate moments and larger gatherings, fostering a fluid dialogue between togetherness and solitude.
Central to the concept is a sheltered outdoor living environment — protected from the elements yet open to light, breeze, and greenery. Here, thresholds dissolve. Sliding planes, deep overhangs, and framed vistas orchestrate a seamless physical and visual transition from interior to exterior. The boundaries of the house soften, allowing nature to permeate daily life while maintaining comfort and shade within a tropical context.
This sheltered courtyard-like living space becomes the true heart of the dwelling — a place where family meals stretch into evening conversations, where celebrations are held beneath filtered daylight, and where quiet mornings unfold in gentle calm. Architecture frames these moments without overpowering them; it recedes to allow memory-making to take centre stage.
Materiality and proportion are approached with restraint, emphasising warmth and tactility. Light is filtered and layered, creating subtle shifts in atmosphere throughout the day. Each space is designed not as a standalone room, but as part of a continuous spatial narrative — one that invites movement, connection, and reflection.
Though unrealised, the project embodies our belief that meaningful homes are shaped not only by walls and roofs, but by the life they hold. In building a house, we build the framework for memory — and in turn, the house becomes a vessel that shapes the stories lived within it.
