Located within a luxury condominium development in Singapore, this unrealised proposal reimagines the common facilities adjoining the swimming pool as a renewed architectural focal point for the community.
The brief called for a sensitive refurbishment — one that would respect the spirit of the existing development while introducing a refreshed identity. Conceived as The Pavilion, the design is expressed as a modernist composition that draws inspiration from the original architecture, interpreted through a contemporary lens.
Lightness and clarity define the architectural language. A refined sculptural form is elevated on delicate pilotis, allowing the structure to sit gently within its lush tropical setting. Transparent glass walls dissolve boundaries between inside and outside, while visually soft, luxurious metal drapes lend texture and subtle movement to the façade. Together, these elements create an architecture that feels both poised and inviting — at once understated and distinctive.
A key strategic move involved unifying the site’s previously fragmented floor levels into a single continuous plane. By consolidating the different tiers, the pavilion establishes a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, enabling residents to transition effortlessly between sheltered gatherings and open-air activities. This reconfiguration unlocks new spatial possibilities and encourages a more fluid communal experience.
The refreshed pavilion was envisioned not merely as an upgraded facility, but as a renewed heart for the development — a place for informal encounters, quiet retreat, and shared moments by the water. Through careful proportion, material refinement and integration with landscape, the design seeks to enhance everyday living while reinforcing a sense of cohesion within the estate.
Though unrealised, the proposal reflects our continued interest in crafting spaces that balance contextual sensitivity with contemporary expression — architecture that elevates the ordinary into something quietly memorable.
