Wafuken is a restaurant that serves Japanese style western cuisine with strong emphasis on wellness. The project is an exploration of the theme of Japanese-ness with a contemporary interpretation. We approached the design through the choice of material, such as aged walnut timber, and dark stained oak timber panels and by juxtaposing them with strong black metal elements.

Low horizontal metal beams are intentionally inserted to create a more intimate human scale, they double up as lighting fixtures, providing accent lighting at strategic locations to further enhance the restaurant visually.
